It’s a family affair here at Moness Resort with our General Manager, Kelly Duguid, leading the way and working alongside her husband and two daughters. Read on to understand their shared passion for hospitality.
First of all, let’s find out more about our inspirational leader, Kelly.
What attracted you to a role in hospitality?
Growing up, I wasn’t set on a career path but it was my first job in a local hotel that gave me a flair for what was to come next. My parents encouraged me to move on and study hospitality and I’ve never looked back having secured roles within various hotel departments, including Reception, HR and Food and Beverage, over the years. This variety has given me a breadth of experience so this coupled with my desire to work hard and support my team has got me to where I am today.
What qualities do you look for in someone hoping to join your team?
Someone who has good time keeping, is willing to learn and leads with a customer first approach.
Now, let’s hear from the rest of the family, Nairn, Anna and Katie.
Describe the work you get to do at Moness?
Katie: When I first started, I worked in the Laundry folding towels but now I help clean bedrooms in the hotel as part of the Housekeeping team which I much prefer as there’s more variety in the jobs I get to do.
Anna: I work in the Food and Beverage team as a waitress which I really enjoy. Initially, my mum had asked me to set up tables in the restaurant after breakfast service but on my first day I was a little early so I started to take orders and serve food. There’s lots to do in a day working here but my favourite shift so far has been serving at a wedding.
Nairn: I oversee the Maintenance team at the resort so no two days are the same! My work is varied seeing as our team look after any maintenance work that is required in the buildings as well as looking after the grounds, swimming pool and hot tubs. My busiest days seem to be in the winter, especially when it snows as it is all hands to deck to clear paths and roads. Kelly even mucks in when it's snowy to make sure guests can get to and from the resort safely!
What's it like to have your mum as your boss?
Katie and Anna: It has advantages and disadvantages! It’s good because she brings us to and from work and helps us learn what to do but Mum also knows what we are capable of so holds us to a high standard of work.
