Top 5 things to do in the area

During your stay you can be as active or relaxed as you like. Here are a few of our local recommendations:

1. Take to the water in dramatic style on Loch Tay

There are few places more magical and serene than Loch Tay. Stretching over 14 miles, it’s the largest body of fresh water in Scotland and one of the most spectacular sites. It’s pretty incredible to take in from the shoreline, but imagine experiencing the place from the centre of the loch? Loch Tay Safaris is a cruise company operating on Loch Tay, taking visitors out on the water on a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), which can hit speeds more than 40 knots, to soak up the dramatic views and mesmerising stories of the area. A breath-taking adventure.

To book, visit the Loch Tay Safaris website here.

2. Discover a world of whisky

Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery offers visitors the chance to learn about Scotch whisky through a variety of tastings and tours.

Find out more when visiting the Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery website.

3. Explore the great outdoors on foot

Perthshire is also known as Big Tree Country. With over 200,000 acres of woodlands, the region has some of the most spectacular walking trails. Near Moness is the Birks of Aberfeldy, a circular walk through the Moness Glen. There’s stunning hanging waterfalls and a statue of Robert Burns who wrote ‘The Birks O’Aberfeldie’ after visiting the area. Another trail to explore nearby is the Hermitage where, when looking up, visitors are surrounded by looming Douglas Firs and, while walking, will encounter the beautiful and loud Black Linn Falls.

Discover more via the Visit Aberfeldy website here.

4. Experience the arts

If you’re looking to soak up some local culture, there is plenty to see and do in Aberfeldy and neighbouring Pitlochry. The Birks Cinema is an award-winning single screen cinema in the heart of Aberfeldy. A 20 minute drive south to Pitlochry is home to Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Known as ‘Scotland’s theatre in the hills’ the theatre has an extensive programme of live shows for visitors to choose from. The Watermill is another cultural experience to explore while in Aberfeldy. An art gallery, bookshop and café, The Watermill holds a range of events through the year, from poetry readings for National Poetry Day to ceramic and pottery exhibitions.

5. A carpet of colour in the woods

If you are travelling to Aberfeldy from the south between mid-April and late May, a stop at Kinclaven Bluebell Wood is a must. Situated near Murthly about 25 miles from Moness, this beautiful carpet of bluebells is well known in the area as a beautifully vibrant site. It’s also a great spot for observing wildlife where red squirrels, pine martens and roe deer to name a few are regularly spotted. To explore Kinclaven Bluebell Wood visit the Woodland Trust website here click here.
