Big fun for little ones

While there’s plenty to keep you and the kids occupied across our resort, there’s so much to explore right here on our doorstep too. Are you ready for an adventure? Here are our top 5 must-dos for families visiting Highland Perthshire.

1. For wannabe Indiana Joneses (young and old)

Highland Perthshire is admired for its stunning landscape, sprawling hills and shimmering lochs. For families who are happiest when soaking up the great outdoors, this part of Scotland has so much to offer. For active kids (and parents!), Wee Adventures ticks a lot of these boxes. From canoeing to tree climbing, Wee Adventures can build adrenaline pumping activities in nature’s playground that the whole family can enjoy together. Also, they offer parents the chance to ‘outsource’ the kids for their own adventure with the team. Then, the parents can have some time to relax.

To find out more visit the Wee Adventures website here.

2. A special search for treasure

For those looking to immerse themselves in nature Highland Safaris and Red Deer Centre is a must. Taking their visitors on a ‘unique journey of discovery, there’s several safaris to choose from including a shorter Forest Safari perfect for families and younger children. Another brilliant activity for all ages is Scotland’s only Gold & Gem Panning Centre. Visitors can pick up a pan and bucket of dirt and get swirling in the Centre’s Panning Flume to search for treasures. The best bit, you get to take whatever you find home with you!

To book a visit go to the Highland Safaris website here.

3. Step into a children’s book in Dunkeld

When people think of Beatrix Potter, they tend to think of the Lake District. What many don’t know is that the classic children’s author used to holiday in Highland Perthshire with her family when she was a child. Her love of the natural world was nurtured here as she had the space to explore. To celebrate Potter’s connection to the place, there’s a wonderful Exhibition and Garden in nearby Dunkeld where kids can step into the world of Peter Rabbit by dressing up as one of the characters as well as an array of creative activities to enjoy.

The Beatrix Potter Exhibition & Garden is open from 10am-4.30pm daily with last entry permitted at 4pm. For more information visit their website here.

4. A choc-a-holic’s dream

For anyone with a sweet tooth, a trip to Iain Burnett, The Highland Chocolatier will bring a sprinkle of chocolate flavoured joy. The signature truffles are to die for and can be picked up in the shop along with an array of other handmade chocolates, all made on site. The place really is the stuff dreams are made of – literally making you feel like a kid in a sweetie shop. The scent of chocolate is in the air and you can see the chocolatier team or, as Roald Dahl would call them, ‘Oompa Loompas’ creating chocolate heaven in their kitchen. And, there’s a lovely café where visitors can indulge in a delicious hot chocolate too.
